Gender
Supporting mental and sexual reproductive wellbeing for adolescent girls in India through a WhatsApp chatbot.
Wysa and Girl Effect jointly developed a Hinglish WhatsApp chatbot for young women aged 18-24 in North India. The pilot engaged 3,100 unique girls across Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana - achieving an 86% positive recommendation rate.
The chatbot facilitated 11,000+ conversations, highlighting the need for integrated sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and mental health (MH) resources, providing young women safe spaces to articulate challenges and build resilience. Key topics addressed included stressors around love life (33%), self-love (14%), and loneliness (11%). Tools designed to support interpersonal challenges resonated strongly, with the ‘Difficult Conversation’ seeing 60% completion, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy receiving a 75% helpfulness.
Workforce
Combating loneliness to support workforce readiness in migrant blue-collar workers.
Wysa partnered with Smartstaff to pilot the Wysa Hindi app among 250 factory workers in peri-urban Delhi and Bangalore over three months. The pilot targeted predominantly male migrant workers (90%), aged 19-25 (80%), with 40% earning below INR 10,000 monthly.
Capacity building among intermediary field executives led to sustained usage among workers, with 80% workers returning for multiple sessions. Screening revealed that this high-risk population faced significant mental health challenges, with 50% showing symptoms of depression and anxiety. With 9.5 minutes spent on average per worker per usage, the pilot was able to show a 27% increase in positive emotion among workers.
Workers prioritized tools for better sleep (46%) and managing anger (21%), reflecting their financial and job-related challenges. Overall positive rating of 92% underscores the effectiveness of field-driven mental health interventions in reaching and supporting underserved populations with accessible, contextually relevant support.
Healthcare
Feasibility study of supporting wellbeing in rural adolescents and young adults living with chronic conditions
Wysa collaborated with Udaan NGO for a feasibility study of six months in rural Aurangabad, Maharashtra, involving 80 participants aged 13-25. The study assessed Wysa’s effectiveness for adolescents and young adults living with type-1 diabetes in low-resource settings.
Participants used tools to manage regimen-related distress and emotional burden, and showed a 96% engagement rate. Qualitative analysis revealed Wysa improved mood, motivation, and adherence to diabetes care, with 61% users returning for more than 5 sessions with Wysa. The study indicated a high need for mental health support, with 96% reporting depressive symptoms compared to 42% with diabetes distress.
